The Association of Hungarian Orchestras (AHO) was founded by 13 professional orchestras in 1993 with the objective to offer appropriate professional representation for symphonic orchestras. Currently operating with 16 members, the Association also coordinates between the orchestras and the cultural government and uses various media, including Zenekar, its own journal, to facilitate information flow between orchestras and the publication of the news and events of the music world. The Association is represented by a 5-member board: Chairman Géza Kovács, Secretary General Péter Popa and board members Zsolt Horváth, György Lendvai and Sándor Gyüdi. The Association is a member of the Hungarian Music CouncilPEARLE (Performing Arts Employers Associations League Europe) and IAOA (International Alliance of Orchestra Associations). The Association maintains strong ties with the Ministry of Human Capacities, which includes the State Secretariat for Culture. In addition to various task forces, the delegates of the Association are involved in the activities of the National Reconciliation Council. The Association also sends delegates to the Musical Arts College of the National Cultural Fund, which is the organisation responsible for cultural patronage in Hungary.
